San Antonio philanthropist and Remember the Alamo Foundation board member Susan Naylor has donated $2.5 million to build an outdoor classroom on the grounds of the Alamo.
The Alamo Trust, which oversees daily operations at the historic site downtown, said Monday the classroom will be named after Naylor’s son, Will Naylor Smith, and will be part of the Texas Cavaliers Education Center, which is set to open this spring. Will died in a car accident at the age of 8 in 2007.
The classroom will have built-in stairs, seating and greenery, providing a place for children visiting on school field trips to listen to historians and eat lunch. It will feature a quotation inspired by Naylor’s travels: “A time past, breathed into life. It is a moment reflected for someone. It is the love, hope, humor of a people. It is the survival of that people. It is the people.”…
