Meridian Police Department drone program

The Meridian Police Department is preparing to launch a first-of-its-kind program in Ada County that could revolutionize how law enforcement responds to emergency calls. The department is deploying drones that can reach any location in the city of Meridian within two minutes. Chief of Police, Tracy Basterrechea spoke with us about this groundbreaking initiative.

Three autonomous drones will soon be stationed strategically across Meridian, one at the main police station and two at fire stations. These aren’t your typical recreational drones. They’re first responders that can launch automatically when certain calls come in.

“Those drones will be able to respond to any location within two minutes. Once we get that up and running, we plan on really utilizing those drones to clear calls more efficiently and help our officers with officer safety,” said Basterrechea…
