A newly purchased C8 Corvette convertible was involved in a dramatic crash Friday afternoon in Colorado Springs after its driver lost control and struck a parked vintage pickup truck, according to local police.
The incident occurred in the 20 block of North Union and involved a Corvette that was still displaying a temporary registration tag, indicating it had recently been purchased. Police said the vehicle jumped a curb before colliding with the pickup, leaving the sports car’s front end wedged beneath the older truck. Debris from the Corvette was scattered across the roadway following the impact.
No injuries were reported. The driver of the Corvette, identified as Charles Smith, and his female passenger were both unharmed. Smith was cited by the Colorado Springs Police Department for careless driving.
After the crash, Smith told authorities and bystanders that he believed a medical episode may have caused him to lose control of the vehicle. He reported experiencing sudden vision problems and memory loss immediately before the crash and said he did not recall the moments leading up to the impact. He was reportedly surprised to learn that a collision had occurred when he regained awareness.
Medical professionals have suggested the possibility that Smith may have experienced a seizure, though no official diagnosis has been confirmed at this time. Police have not indicated whether the reported medical issue will affect the citation or lead to further investigation…
