South Lyon first responders honored for saving 5-year-old’s life

SOUTH LYON – A tragedy involving a 5-year-old child was averted this month thanks to the lifesaving efforts of eight of the city’s emergency responders.

“It’s always terrifying when we get a medical call for a child − your heart starts racing and there is so much worry,” Fire Chief Cindy Conrad said Jan. 27, one day after a city council meeting where a police officer and seven members of the fire department were honored with awards for their parts in saving the child.

Conrad and Police Chief Bonnie Unruh shared with the council and those in the crowd, which included a Girl Scout troop, what happened on Jan. 6. On that day, just before 4 p.m., a 911 call came in reporting a 5-year-old child not breathing…
