68-year-old pedestrian killed on Oswell Street identified

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A 68-year-old man who was killed in a pedestrian crash on Oswell Street last week was identified as Salvador Lemus Meza, of Bakersfield. A dog also died in the crash.

The Kern County coroner said that at around 5:45 p.m. on January 20, Meza was struck by a vehicle on Oswell Street, north of Pioneer Drive, and died upon impact.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that officers were called to the scene at approximately 5:46 p.m. following a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. The investigation revealed that a 25-year-old man was driving a 2009 Nissan Rogue southbound on Oswell Street at about 45 miles per hour when Meza entered the road outside of a crosswalk, directly in the vehicle’s path.
