ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — NEWS10 investigating reports of at least five Albany School District students who have been detained by ICE. The detentions of those students and their families, said to have happened earlier this month while they were off school grounds.
Albany City School District Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter says the district has been speaking with local nonprofits and community members to determine where students go when they stop showing up, while staying compliant with federal law. At least one family’s detention happened during a legal immigration check-in according to the immigration service group RISSE.
ICE did not respond to two requests for comment by the time of this article.

“We are in regular communication with any number of agencies that are supporting our families, whether that’s RISSE or our faith based community,” said Hochreiter. “We have a number of staff that are in regular outreach with those agencies and the families.”…
