Archer High School student Sandra Brown-Peraza said immigrants who go to her school, and others across Gwinnett County, are worried about what waits for them when they walk off their school campuses every day.
There have been concerns, both from Gwinnett teachers and students, about how an increase in actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs agents will impact students. Add onto that recent reports about people being killed by ICE agents, including some in Minnesota, and the fear among immigrant students that they could be arrested as soon as they walk off campus rises.
“As we’ve seen, there’s been ICE waiting outside schools, outside places that are meant to be safe haven to learn and be educated,” Brown-Peraza said. “We just want to make sure that environment is always safe and we’re not scaring people away from truly getting a better future.”…
