Convicted, court-martialed Parris Island drill instructor arrested on child crimes

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) — A former Parris Island drill instructor, who was court-martialed and sentenced for hazing recruits, was arrested Sunday, according to Beaufort County court records.

Joseph Felix, who was found guilty and sentenced in 2017 for his role in the hazing and abuse of recruits, was charged with cruelty to children by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. The charge was specified to have been torture and deprivation.

Felix was previously sentenced to 10 years and received a dishonorable discharge after the hazing was connected to a recruit’s death in 2016, when the recruit jumped off a three-story structure…
