Syracuse woman identified more than a year after her body was found

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The body found in a residence on Furman Street in 2024 has been identified as a Syracuse resident named Elisia Russell, according to the Syracuse Police Department.

The investigation began after Syracuse Police officers responded to a vacant residence at 216 Furman St. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, for a report of a deceased person. Upon arrival, officers found a body inside. Syracuse Police detectives and Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office officials responded to the scene to begin an investigation. Identification of the victim was not possible at the time.

The Syracuse Police Department Criminal Investigations Division began an investigation the same day, during which officials interviewed numerous people and conducted an extensive neighborhood canvass.
