DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines City Council has approved a settlement guaranteeing a hefty payout to Des Moines police Maj. Lillie Parker.
Details of the settlement were not released in the council’s agenda or meeting Monday night, but all members of the board voted to approve the settlement.

The agenda item document stated, in part, “HEREAS, Lillie Parker is represented by Attorney Alfredo Parrish from whom the City received a demand letter and with whom attorneys on behalf of the City negotiated regarding the demand letter; and WHEREAS, a settlement agreement has been negotiated with Ms. Parker and her attorney; and WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Legal Department that payment would be in the best interest of the City of Des Moines.”
The approved settlement amount was $975,000, according to Communications Manager Peter Zemansky in the Des Moines City Manager’s Office.
