LEWISVILLE, Texas — Lewisville firefighters recently undertook two challenging rescue operations, resulting in the loss of two pets, according to a press release from the Lewisville Fire Department. Despite their best efforts, the firefighters were unable to save the animals, leaving the department and community grieving.
The first incident involved an ice rescue on a frozen pond, where crews spent 45 minutes using roof ladders, rope systems, and 12-foot hooks to search for a submerged dog. In a separate structure fire, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions but managed to locate a dog inside the home. The pet was moved to the front yard, where CPR and “mouth-to-snout” resuscitation were performed with the help of paramedics and specialized pet oxygen masks carried on all Lewisville MICUs.
