Otis Orchards, a small semi-rural community north of Liberty Lake, kind of flies under the radar.
While there are plenty of hiking trails and the remnants of old apple orchards, something else has recently been creating buzz in this otherwise idyllic landscape. Tucked against a backdrop of pine trees and facing an open field since last April has been an unexpected sight: a lone vending machine with a glowing digital display of stars and changing colors.
Dubbed the “Mystery 90s Vending Machine” on Google Maps, where it’s also listed as a cultural landmark, the machine has both delighted and puzzled many a passerby. While it looks like a leftover prop from a David Lynch movie, the machine actually functions and is used by the local neighborhood. It’s even generated a five-star rating on Google…
