Home lost, family unharmed in Sweet Home blaze

SWEET HOME, Ore. – A devastating Tuesday evening house fire on Port Drive required a major response, with 11 apparatus, including three engines and four water tenders, arriving at the scene, according to the Sweet Home Fire District.

Fire officials said the 911 call came in at 11:23 p.m. on Jan. 27, alerting responders to a fully engulfed home. The residents evacuated just in time with only their clothes, authorities said.

The rural setting posed challenges, as water had to be shuttled by tender due to the absence of hydrants. The long, narrow driveway complicated access for the firefighting team. Fire district officials said the home, its contents, and a car were reportedly a total loss. The fire also damaged nearby cedar and Douglas fir trees.
