Last Defendant Sentenced in Akron Drug Trafficking Conspiracy

The final defendant in a major Akron-based drug trafficking conspiracy has been sentenced, closing a federal case that sent seven Akron residents to prison for a combined 84 years.

Jonnell Ammons, 36, of Akron, was sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison after a jury convicted him of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with using a phone to facilitate drug trafficking. He will also serve three years of supervised release.

Federal prosecutors say the conspiracy operated from May 2023 through January 2024, using homes and businesses in Akron to store illegal drugs before distributing them throughout Summit County and surrounding areas.
