Augusta wants clarity requesting more info on Housing audit

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – It was an $8 million dollar mistake at Augusta’s Housing and Community Development Department, and tax payers are left holding the bag.“We do need to audit and everything be transparent and where the money is being spent,” said Cheryl Eldridge.In May of last year, commissioners approved the resignation of the Housing Director and an audit.

The department’s preliminary report is finished, but the city is saying the audit is not final because more information is being requested.“It’s just not enough. we need to go back and just kind of weed out a few more things, findings that we see,” said Commissioner Catherine Smith Rice.

Once the requested information is received, city leaders say nothing will be withheld from the public…
