Home Depot Announces Job Cuts, Mandates Full-Time Office Return for Corporate Staff

ATLANTA, GA – Home Depot announced Wednesday it is eliminating approximately 800 positions associated with its Atlanta store support center, a move the company says is part of an effort to streamline operations. In addition to the job reductions, the home improvement giant will also require its corporate employees to return to the office full-time, five days a week.

“We’re simplifying our corporate operations to better support our stores and our customers,” Home Depot stated in a press release. “These changes include a reduction in roles associated with our store support center and a transition to a five-day in-office schedule for our corporate staff.”

The company emphasized its goal to “drive greater agility and position the company to move faster and stay even more closely connected with our frontline associates.” While acknowledging the layoffs as a “difficult decision,” Home Depot confirmed it would provide affected employees with separation packages, transitional benefits, and job placement assistance.

The restructuring comes as Home Depot projects a significant decrease in its fiscal 2025 profit. This announcement also places Home Depot among a growing number of major corporations implementing substantial job cuts.

Earlier this week, Amazon revealed plans to cut approximately 16,000 roles, citing an organizational overhaul aimed at “reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy.” United Parcel Service (UPS) also announced on Tuesday its intention to slash up to 30,000 operational roles this year as part of its transformation strategy.

Nike similarly disclosed plans to cut nearly 800 jobs, attributing the reductions to an automation push within its distribution centers.
