FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – After several days of virtual learning, students in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio have reason to hope they’ll be heading back to school Thursday morning. While a few delays are in place due to bitter wind chills and some snowy back roads, conditions are improving enough that most districts should be able to welcome kids back into classrooms.
A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect south of Allen County until 9 a.m., with wind chills dropping as low as -15 to -20 degrees. Parents and guardians should check with their school district to see if this impacts their morning commute.
Road Conditions Improving, But Caution Advised
Overnight flurries in northern areas have left a very fine dusting of snow on some roads, though this is not widespread across 21Country. Where snow is present, it’s minimal — but drivers should still take it slower to watch for any slick spots, especially on secondary roads.
Thursday’s Forecast
Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies Thursday with a high of 17 degrees. Tonight will remain cloudy with temperatures dropping to -1 degree.
Dangerous Cold Continues Through Sunday
First Alert Weather Days are in place for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and the first half of Sunday. The main concern during this period is dangerous wind chills ranging from -10 to -25 degrees.
Friday’s commute: Morning bus stop temperatures will be around 0 degrees (wind chills -10 to 0), with afternoon temperatures warming slightly to around 13 degrees (wind chills 0 to 5)…
