‘As bad as it is, actually beautiful’, Baldwin EMC crews restoring power after ice storm

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — With ice on just about everything, it’s hard to believe it’s Mississippi.

“All the ice on the trees, as bad as it is, it’s actually very beautiful up here.” Eric Turner is the safety coordinator for more than two dozen crew members from Baldwin EMC, now near New Albany, Mississippi, trying to get the power back on.

“Conditions are: a lot of tree damage, the trees could not hold the weight of the ice. Have snapped off, broken poles, a lot of wire down,” said Turner.

At the height of the storm, almost 95 percent of customers in that part of Mississippi were without electricity. It is beginning to change. Turner said his crews are helping. “We’ve got a pretty good job of trying to get to some of these trees and some of these poles, but, with it starting to thaw out, it is a blessing and a curse.”…
