Worcester commission recommends police oversight board: ‘Start that ball rolling’

The Worcester Human Rights Commission voted 5-1 this week to recommend the city move forward on creating a police civilian oversight board.

The recommendation asks City Manager Eric Batista’s administration to begin establishing an independent police oversight board consistent with the recommendations outlined in a report from the Worcester Regional Research Bureau (WRRB).

The bureau’s report, which was released in October 2025, endorsed the creation of such a board, saying it was “overdue.”…
