Job fair offers path forward for 1,761 workers laid off from Tyson

Hundreds of displaced workers filled the Amarillo Civic Center on Tuesday, Jan. 27, moving between rows of employer booths and community resource tables, with some participating in on-site interviews as they searched for work and stability following layoffs that eliminated 1,761 jobs at the Tyson beef packing plant.

The job fair, organized by Workforce Solutions Panhandle in coordination with the City of Amarillo and regional partners, brought together roughly 60 employers and about 10 community organizations. The event offered both immediate hiring opportunities and access to services ranging from job placement assistance to education, interpretation, transportation support and social services.
