CLEVELAND (WJW) — The arctic weather this January is continuing to keep schools closed and parents scrambling around Northeast Ohio.

As of Thursday at 10:40 p.m., more than 70 schools and/or districts in the FOX 8 viewing area announced closures for Friday due to below-freezing temperatures and winds.
Akron Public Schools have been closed all week, and released the following statement Thursday:
“All schools are CLOSED on Friday, Jan. 30 due to extreme weather. All after-school activities are canceled. College Credit Plus students should follow their college/university’s guidance. Auxiliary buildings will be open. We look forward to seeing everyone in school on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026.”
Other districts that have already announced closures for Friday include Alliance City Schools and Field Local Schools.
