Winter storm pushes Charlottesville shelters to capacity

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The winter storm pushed Charlottesville shelters to capacity, with some facilities filling every bed as organizations worked around the clock to keep people safe through dangerous cold.

When forecasts turned threatening, shelters across the area moved quickly to implement staffing plans and gather emergency supplies. The Salvation Army and other organizations said early prevention measures kept people safe despite reaching capacity limits.
