Detroit Man Giving Free Rides to Kids During Extreme Cold Draws Backlash After School Safety Alert

Detroit Public Schools sent an alert to parents after reports of an unauthorized yellow school bus picking up students.

The driver later spoke to Metro Detroit News to explain his side of the story, saying he was trying to help children walking to school in dangerously cold temperatures.

In an automated call sent Wednesday, the district warned families that an individual not affiliated with the school system was offering students rides. Parents were reminded that children should only ride official buses assigned to their route and never accept rides from strangers.
