VIDEO: Line of fire seen from Ravenel Bridge late Wednesday night

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The glow of a large fire could be seen from the Ravenel Bridge late Wednesday night.

A line of flames was visible on an area of land, known as Laurel Island, which sits adjacent to Drum Island on the Charleston side of the Cooper River.

The Charleston Fire Department said crews responded to the scene just before 11 p.m. and found the grass, brush and debris fire.

“Additional units were requested, including specialized brush firefighting vehicles from Charleston, Saint Johns, and Mount Pleasant Fire Departments,” said Charleston Fire officials. A drone unit was also deployed to monitor conditions.

The fire affected roughly 20 acres of undeveloped land, primarily consuming dried grass. It did not pose a risk to any structures. The fire and hot spots were extinguished just before 2 a.m…
