Poached elephant trunks, rhino horns shipped seized in California, 3 arrested

(KRON) — Elephant trunks, rhino horns and hundreds of other illegally poached animal parts were seized during a wildlife trafficking bust in Fresno County earlier this month.

The animal parts were found inside falsely labeled packages shipped from Thailand to Fresno, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said. The shipments also contained saiga antelope, walrus tusks, suspected bear gallbladders and turtle shells.

“CDFW confirmed that the trunks are from Asian elephants, a species protected under the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species,” the CDFW said.
