SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — As post-pandemic ridership continues to trend upward on BART, overall crime “plummeted” last year, the Bay Area Rapid Transit District said Thursday, despite little change to more violent crimes, including rape and assaults.
The agency announced that overall crime dropped 41% in 2025 compared to 2024. In its latest monthly report comparing year-to-date crime figures, BART showed that robberies decreased by 60%, from 207 in 2024 to 82 in 2025. Car thefts were also greatly reduced, going from 442 to 219. Instances of larceny, which include auto burglaries, dropped from 1,243 to 744.
