Greenville schools on 2-hour delay on Jan. 30. Weekend events canceled

Schools in the Upstate are working to get students back into classrooms.

Here’s what to know about this weekend’s past ice storm and this weekend’s snow forecast:

Greenville County Schools to operate on a two-hour delay

Greenville County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, Jan. 30, due to unsafe early travel conditions:

  • Bus routes will begin two hours later than usual, and schools and offices will open two hours later than usual to receive students.
  • Buses will not operate on icy roads that are impassable. Students whose routes are affected have been notified directly by the Transportation Department.
  • The school day will conclude at its regular time.
  • The weather is being watched closely regarding Friday night activities. If adjustments are made, updates will be communicated.

All Greenville County Schools activities, including athletic events and field trips, are canceled on Saturday, Jan. 31, and Sunday, Feb. 1. This decision was made based on the forecasts and timing for snow, which may result in unsafe road conditions, downed power lines, and loss of electrical services.

For Friday’s two-hour delay:

  • Morning half-day programs for three-year-olds are cancelled; afternoon programs for three-year-olds will operate, but no district transportation will be provided.
  • For career centers and the Fine Arts Center, no morning bus transportation will be provided. However, if students arrive at the center, buses will return them to their high school after the morning session concludes.
  • Special-needs transportation will be provided only for students who attend full-day programming.
  • No state or district buses will be available for field trips.

Parents can refer to the GCS Weather Delay page on the district’s website for FAQs and details.
