San Francisco dive bar and punk venue Thee Parkside says it’s closing

Thee Parkside, the Potrero Hill dive bar and live music venue that has hosted generations of punk shows, karaoke nights and late-night patio hangouts will soon shutter — another blow to a neighborhood already bracing for the loss of nearby Bottom of the Hill.

“Well, looks like we’re gonna turn into a buncha condos. We don’t have an exact end date, but we’ll be stopping live music at the end of March and then just be a bar for a few months after that,” the San Francisco venue wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

The announcement follows last year’s sale of the building at 1600 17th St.

For months, owner Malia Spanyol warned that Thee Parkside’s future was uncertain after the death of the property’s longtime owner, Maria Gloria Rando. Spanyol, who has run the bar since 2007, had first rights to buy the building but was said she was outbid by a developer who offered nearly $1.33 million…
