Nor’easter could strike NY, NJ this weekend: Timing and what to know

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The tri-state area could get sucker-punched by a second winter storm this weekend, according to PIX11 meteorologists.

The storm is expected to develop into a nor’easter, which could cause flooding and beach erosion in New York and New Jersey. PIX11 meteorologists said the storm may also grow into a bomb cyclone.

Timing

Snow is expected to fall on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 40% chance of precipitation in New York City on Sunday, but that could change over the next 24 hours.

Where the storm will hit

The areas with the best chance for snow include southeast parts of New Jersey and Suffolk County on Long Island. The storm has the chance to drift farther west, though, which means New York City could also see some accumulation.

It’s unclear exactly how much snow could accumulate, but the NWS warned to watch out for “significant snowfall to eastern portions of the region during the second half of the weekend.”…
