Upcoming ice fishing tournaments in the Capital Region

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Now that winter is in full swing, several Capital Region parks and groups are preparing for upcoming ice fishing tournaments. Each fishing tournament or derby features several activities beyond the primary focus of catching the largest fish that anglers can catch.

Grafton Lake State Park Ice Fishing Contest, Renssealer County

Grafton Lake State Park’s 40th annual Ice Fishing Contest is January 31, at several of the park’s ponds from 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration begins at 5:30 a.m. at the park’s maintenance building, and is $10 for adults and free for kids 15 or younger.

First-place winners of all the categories receive a cash prize. The tournament is being held on Second Pond, Mill Pond, Shaver Pond, and Long Pond.

Thompson Lake Campground Ice Fishing Contest, Albany County

The Thompson Lake Campground in East Berne will hold its annual ice fishing contest on February 7 from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Registration begins at 6 a.m. at the campground’s boat rental shed, and is $10 for for all anglers 13 or older…
