Following a high-speed game of cat and mouse on Colorado roads, a 19-year-old driver was apprehended by deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office alongside Colorado State Patrol troopers. The suspect, identified as David Christman, was involved in a string of vehicular eluding incidents that culminated in multiple charges, including three counts of felony eluding, as reported by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident started on the night of January 24 when deputies spotted a Scion tC sedan, already on their radar for earlier offenses, and attempted a traffic stop. Christman, however, decided to flee, initiating what would become an hours-long ordeal. Later that evening, his reckless driving was once again spotted, this time running a red light on Powers Boulevard, which brought Colorado State Patrol into the fray. Efforts to apprehend Christman were bolstered by hazardous weather conditions; a fresh blanket of snow ultimately led to the suspect losing control of his vehicle and crashing.
With Christman’s Scion incapacitated near Aeroplaza Drive, law enforcement swooped in to block the vehicle, ensuring that the chase had finally come to an end. Both Christman and an accompanying passenger were detained at the scene. “This incident reflects the importance of strong collaboration between law-enforcement agencies and the discipline to exercise patience in the interest of public safety,” El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal said, as obtained by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
