Western North Carolina is under a winter storm warning, in effect 4 p.m. Jan. 30 through 7 a.m. Feb. 1, with forecasts calling for up to 8 inches of snow in some places and wind gusts up to 30 mph.
Henderson, Polk and Transylvania counties are expected to get around 3-6 inches of snow, but patches of weather, “snow bands,” over certain areas could leave even more than that, meteorologist Thomas Winesett at the Greer National Weather Service office told the Times-News Jan. 30.
