Please don’t sled down the ancient burial mound in west Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Ohio History Connection is urging the public to refrain from using the ancient earthworks, specifically Shrum Mound in west Columbus, as a sledding hill.

Shrum Mound, near Trabue Road and McKinley Avenue, is one of the last remaining conical mounds in Columbus, the Ohio History Connection said. It is believed to have been built around 2,500 years ago by the Adena culture.

Neil Thompson from the Ohio History Connection emphasized the importance of preserving these sites, stating, “This is a cemetery. It’s a sacred place because of that. Within the mound, there are, more than likely, many remains in there that are interred.”…
