Why is the February full moon called the ‘Snow Moon’? What we know

Full moons typically happen every 29.5 days, but did you know they each have a special name?

Because it is a time of heavy snow, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, Captain Jonathan Carver wrote the Snow Moon was given its name “because more snow commonly falls during this month than any other in the winter,” when he was visiting a Native American tribe in the 1760s.
