BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) and Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser are encouraging revelers to be mindful of Mardi Gras waste this Carnival season, reminding everyone to celebrate responsibly and keep Louisiana litter-free.
“We love to celebrate Mardi Gras in Louisiana, but we must be mindful of the litter and waste we are creating,” Nungesser said. “Bring a bag for throws and a bag for your trash. Keeping trash off the ground should be everyone’s priority.”
According to the City of New Orleans, 2.5 million pounds of Mardi Gras trash were brought to landfills during an 11-day period in 2023. In 2018, the New Orleans drainage system had 93,000 pounds of beads inside it.
