An Erie Police Department officer is under internal administrative investigation after allegedly posting a social media comment that appeared to advocate violence against Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The X account Libs of TikTok posted a screenshot of the comment made by Officer Haili Hazel-Shimko, who replied “they wear armor so headshots would work better” to another user. Libs of TikTok posted the image on Wednesday and the police department responded with confirmation that an internal investigation was initiated Sunday morning.
“The Erie Police Department takes all allegations seriously and is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and public trust,” the department said in a post on X. “This matter will be reviewed thoroughly and handled in accordance with department policy, established procedures, and applicable law.”
“Employee use of social media and public commentary is governed by policy and directives,” the statement continued. “Staff are expected to comply with police department directives and town social media policies.
