Residents of Longmont, Boulder and other area communities looking to cut back on outdoor water use may soon get some help, as applications are set to open for Resource Central’s Lawn Replacement Program.
Resource Central’s Lawn Replacement Program offers two participation options. One option allows residents to hire a professional crew through the program to remove their lawn. The other is a do-it-yourself option, where homeowners remove the grass themselves and receive “Garden In A Box” plant kits to help establish new landscapes. The plant kits include regionally appropriate, low-water plants selected to thrive along the Front Range.
According to Resource Central, replacing grass lawns with waterwise landscapes can significantly reduce outdoor water use, which typically accounts for the largest share of residential water consumption in Colorado.
