Over 200 students cascaded down the front steps of Asheville High School (AHS) on Jan. 30, protest signs in tow, as part of the Jan. 30 National Shutdown walk-out protest.
The nationwide strike calls for a day of no school, no work and no shopping to protest the Minnesota killings of Alex Jeffrey Pretti and Renee Good who were both killed this month by federal officers.
“I support our children, uplifting their voice in a safe way,” said April Dockery, parent and chief of operations at Asheville City Schools. “They’re well organized. They’re not causing any harm. They’re going to stay on our campus where they’re safe. We have parents and staff that have come to help facilitate.”…
