2 killed in Mount Airy shooting, Stein declares state of emergency for upcoming storm

Two people were killed in a mass shooting Thursday afternoon in Mount Airy, authorities said.

Four people were shot on Samurai Lane, off Welcome Baptist Church Road, on the east side of town about 2 p.m., the Surry County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said one died at the scene and the other three were taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where another died.
