Crescent Avenue bakery closing up shop, moving to Syracuse

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A bakery north of downtown Fort Wayne is closing up shop as the owner shifts her focus to a business in Kosciusko County.

But the Crescent Avenue building that until now has housed Sweet Cream Bakery & Coffery won’t be vacant for long. A popular vendor at local farmer’s markets will be opening a brick-and-mortar there in the spring.

To commemorate the bittersweet change, Sweet Cream is hosting a closing party Friday and Saturday. Customers can enjoy free coffee with no purchase necessary. Snacks will be available to buy such as cake slices, cookies and fruit cups, according to a social media post.

Owner Sophie Akins – formerly Drummond – had occupied the shop at 2339 Crescent Ave. since 2019 as a hub for her catering service. She opened up the space to the public in 2023…
