March trial set for man accused of killing off-duty Greensboro officer in 2023

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — The trial for a man accused of fatally shooting off-duty Greensboro Police Sgt. Dale Nix is scheduled to begin March 2, court officials confirmed Friday.

Nix, 51, was shot multiple times Dec. 30, 2023, while confronting two men who had stolen beer from a Sheetz gas station off Sandy Ridge Road in Colfax while a woman waited in their car. Investigators said Jamere Foster fired at Nix during the confrontation.

Foster, faces first-degree murder, larceny, and conspiracy to commit larceny charges. Two other people, Z’quriah Le’Pearce Blackwell and John Walter Morrison, also face charges.

Final autopsy results in May 2025 confirmed Nix was shot three times—once in the chest, arm, and hand. Officials said the chest and arm wounds were fatal, and the death was ruled a homicide. Medical staff attempted resuscitation for 41 minutes after Nix arrived at the hospital…
