Guilford County Schools assesses icy roads as winter cleanup continues

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Across the Triad, crews are still cleaning up from the last winter storm, even as they prepare for the next round.  Are the roads safe enough to bus kids to school? It is a question all district leaders have been facing this weekend.

As Guilford County Schools has been opting for virtual learning this week, FOX8 got to ride along with GCS’s Transportation Department’s safety manager to get a better understanding of how those decisions are made.

Many roads, especially in Northeastern Guilford County are still covered in ice. Riding through Northeastern Guilford County, the safety manager spent time checking road conditions near Madison Elementary, Monticello–Brown Summit Elementary, and Northeast Guilford High School.
