Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Thanks State Leaders as HB 841 Moves Forward Unanimously to End the Outdated Yellow Sticker and Save Millions for Florida Residents

I want to thank the members of the Florida House Government Operations Subcommittee for unanimously advancing a bipartisan, common-sense measure that modernizes Florida’s vehicle registration system and directly benefits residents. This unanimous vote reflects broad agreement that practical solutions to improve government efficiency can and should rise above partisanship.

As Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, my office administers vehicle registrations at one of the highest volumes in the state. For years, registration status has already been verified electronically by law enforcement in real time. The physical yellow decal no longer plays a role in safety, compliance, or enforcement. Instead, its continued use has added cost, delays, and unnecessary administrative steps for residents and local offices alike.

From an operational perspective, eliminating the physical decal would save time and money. It removes the need to print, track, mail, store, and replace countless decals each year, allowing tax collector offices to focus resources where they matter most: customer service, fraud prevention, and efficient operations…
