STORRS — If Providence was going to score a major upset of the UConn men’s basketball team on Tuesday night, the Friars certainly had the right guy on their side.
Ryan Gomes, the Waterbury native and former PC star, was back at Gampel Pavilion for the first time in years, this time as a Friar assistant coach. Gomes, of course, knows a thing or two about knocking off the Huskies in Storrs. And we’re not referencing the famous Jan. 24, 2004 game, when Gomes poured in 25 points in PC’s 66-56 win over the Huskies that precipitated perhaps Jim Calhoun’s most famous postgame tirade.
