At a special meeting held on December 22, 2025, the Greece Town Board voted unanimously to increase the real property tax exemption for qualifying lower-income senior citizens in the Town of Greece.
Earlier in 2025, the NYS Senate and Assembly passed, and the Governor signed into law, legislation allowing local municipalities to increase the maximum exemption from 50% to 65% of assessed value. The law requires a municipality to opt in by passing a local law before March 31, 2026. The Town Board also voted to increase the household income eligibility cap to $58,400.
“Now more than ever, we need to support our lower-income senior citizens in our community so they can afford to live in their homes and continue to enjoy the independent living that they worked so hard throughout their life to achieve,” said Supervisor Reilich.“That is why we acted immediately to pass our local law once we were informed of this legislation.”…
