Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says ‘goodbye’ to K-9 companion

On Saturday, Jan. 24, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 Stretch passed away four days after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

Stretch served as an electronic device detection K-9 for four years with Deputy James Liedel. He was responsible for sniffing around crime scenes for storage devices like computers or SD cards, tracking the scent of triphenylphosphine oxide found in memory chips.

“And he would surprise me from time to time when he was able to find those small micro-SD cards,” Liedel recalled…
