Johnny Cash’s Daughter’s Strong Words Against Government Agency

Nashville, TN – Rosanne Cash, daughter of the legendary Johnny Cash, didn’t hold back this week when she took to social media to voice her strong disapproval of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

On Wednesday, January 28, the acclaimed singer-songwriter posted a selfie video from a Nashville airport. What started as a complaint about travel delays quickly morphed into a fiery condemnation of the Trump administration’s immigration policies and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Cash, 70, joined a chorus of celebrities using their platforms to advocate for the abolition or significant reform of ICE. In her video, she stated, “I came down here several days ago and stayed with my daughter and the storm came through.

Total disaster. Just want to point out that Department of Homeland Security is responsible for disaster relief.”

She continued, “I haven’t seen or read about them being anywhere near here. Too busy shooting private citizens or deporting 5-year-olds.

It’s unspeakable, and it’s a sign of a country that’s falling apart. And, I know I haven’t said much lately, because I haven’t known what to say.

This isn’t the country I was born in. Never thought I’d see this.

Defund ICE. Not only defund them, prosecute them.”

Cash then directly addressed her followers, encouraging those who still support the Trump administration to unfollow her. Her post was captioned, “Ice. and ICE.

(If you still support this administration, there is a way to unfollow me. Please act on your God-given right to do that.

And if you think I should ‘shut up and sing’ because I’m ’not relevant’, I will quote @tommorello: I didn’t give up my First Amendment rights when I picked up my guitar.)”

The comment section beneath her video quickly filled with messages of support, with many praising Cash for her powerful stance and for upholding her father’s legacy. Johnny Cash was known for using his influence to champion various political causes, including prison reform, Native American rights, and civil rights, and was a vocal opponent of the Vietnam War.

One admirer commented, “Johnny, Bob, Joan, Kris, Joanie, Neil…they weren’t afraid to speak out either. We admired them and now you’re here carrying the torch with Bruce and Gaga.”

Another added, “I am so sorry about the loss of life, electricity, destruction of homes from the weather, and so heartbroken from the murder, family separation and deportation from our government. Thank You for Your Voice and Support and Standing Up for what we want and believe our country should be. I love you.”

A third person wrote, “Thank you Rosanne for using your voice about this administration. Love and prayers for you and your family to stay safe.”

And yet another chimed in, “Thanks for speaking out. I live in Minneapolis and it means a lot!

And my niece is in Nashville with no heat. And yes, Homeland security is not helping anyone or anything!”
