DES MOINES, Iowa — Activists across the country called for a nationwide strike Friday to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity. The “National Shutdown,” was called “No Work, No School, No Shopping.”
The demonstrations come as protesters demand federal immigration agents withdraw from Minnesota following the fatal shootings of U.S. citizens that sparked public outrage. Organizers say the goal of the shutdown is to withhold labor and buying power.
