Auto theft task force dismantles Central Texas trailer theft ring

BURNET, Texas — A multi-month investigation by the Heart of Texas Auto Theft Task Force and the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office has successfully dismantled a trailer theft ring operating across Central Texas.

The suspects allegedly used fake IDs and counterfeit cashier’s checks to fraudulently purchase trailers, resulting in losses exceeding $150,000.

Thefts and recoveries were identified in Burnet, Marble Falls, Kingsland, Georgetown, Buda, Mexia, and Blanco, with additional connections to Washington and Idaho, according to the task force. One suspect was apprehended while attempting another fraudulent transaction…
