PHOTOS: Brookfield Zoo gives its new African painted dog pups their first exam

BROOKFIELD, Ill. — A litter of 10 African painted dog pups went in for their first veterinary visit at the west suburban Brookfield Zoo on Wednesday.

From vaccines to de-wormers, the pups are getting top-to-bottom exams to prepare them for future monitoring before their debut to visitors this spring, the zoo said in a news release. It was also revealed that the litter consists of five females and five males.

The pups were born on Nov. 25, hitting their eight-week mark prior to the exam, which took place in the zoo’s “Habitat Africa! The Savannah” while it was closed to the public…
